Our journey to Las Vegas

Flight delay, won't make connection in San Francisco Sometimes just getting there is an accomplishment. Laura, Tony and Kathy all flew in from Indiana and I flew in from Sacramento, CA. West Coast air travelers know that the fog and weather around San Francisco (especially in the winter) frequently delays commuter flights. So it wasn't a big surprise to see that my 8:05 flight was delayed so I couldn't make my connecting flight to Las Vegas. 3 more hours and a route through L.A. finally got me there.
Tony, rolled his ankle 3 days before the Marathon My problems with air travel were nothing compared to Tony. He rolled his ankle playing soccer just 3 days before the marathon. Darn thing was as big as a grapefruit, but he came to Las Vegas anyway.

This would have been one of the most expensive T-shirts in his wardrobe. Fortunately, his luck at at the blackjack table was better than running.
Shopping at the expo We had a lot of fun with this vendor at the expo, I wish I'd gotten his name. He was happy to let us go try on some of the cloths we were looking at, he just wanted to hold Kathy's Boston jacket as collateral! Great guy.

We met Carrie (left of Kathy) at the expo. She is a former Indiana resident who now lives in San Francisco. Carrie turned in a 3:27 time and qualified for Boston. Congratulations Carrie! Hope we see again some time.
Under the mushroom at the MGM Grand Once again, we ducked the official pasta dinner in favor of the local treats. And in Las Vegas the biggest problem is which treat to choose! Because we didn't want to make Tony walk too much on his crutches, we decided on the Magic Mushroom bar in the Rain Forest of the MGM Grand. After all, with non-fat yogurt, fresh fruit and root juices, this place has to be runner friendly.
Not your normal pre-race dinner Sure enough, with a little help from the bar tender, we all found something that suited us. Kathy mowed through this all vegie pita in nothing flat.
Great dinner, just a little different That pink liquid in the glass is a non-fat Strawberry Smoothie. Sort of a fruit yogurt shake, and very tasty. They can make them in various flavors including Oreo cookies.
